Frank Brunner

“Two thousand years before the events of this story, there was a terrible war within a galactic union. The war began with economic and political issues, but robots became the public issue and the conflict was to become known as the Robotoid Wars ever after. During this period of turmoil, robot technology reached its zenith and The Samuroids were created by a group of non-political geniuses to defend the rights of innocent beings as well as the rights of oppressed droids. Knowing that this technology would not remain a secret, they programmed in each Samuroid as a part of its essence a sacred brotherhood ethic based in part on a legendary Sol System culture, so that if the secret was stolen, no matter who created these super warriors, it was part of them! The Samuroids varied in proficiency and all were independent thinkers. They required the mind transcription of a human or alien intelligence. Samuroids are practically immortal if not destroyed. However, they are dependent on an obscure element known as Reiki to maintain powers. In the ensuing years, The Samuroids became without a cause and some went astray. Some, if they could obtain Reiki, search the distant galaxies for the sacred ‘Rune Tape’.
Others simply choose to ’sleep.’ Until now…”

Tsutomu Nihei

Tsutomu Nihei returns with another addictive manga(see <BLAME!>), set in the not-so-distant future(3005A.D.). It follows a character by the name of Kanoe Zouichi and the mysterious Kanoe Fuyu whose luminous form is integrated into the system of his bike. They are agents sent by a powerful organization to retrieve the human with the ability to resist and transmute the NS5 infection that is spreading across the world, named Yion/Ion Green.
However, their mission is delayed by the reckless actions of the Public Health Department’s taskforce, and the kidnapping of Yion/Ion Green. Will they complete their mission? Where had Yion/Ion Green been taken? These questions would only be answered as more volumes are released.

Naoki Urasawa, Osamu Tezuka

Reviews from From “Manga Reviewer”-
“In the years since humans and robots first started living together, there has only been one murder of a human by a robot. Eight years after that incident, investigators are called to a crime scene to investigate the death of a
prominent robot rights supporter. The state of the victim, having been murdered in a brutal fashion and left with decorative horns on his head, draws a chilling parallel to the death of the robot hero Montblanc. When accidental footage of the scene reveals that the killer was a robot so advanced that it could pass for a human, the robot investigator Gesicht begins his search for not only the killer, but the truth to his own past and the events of the 39th Central Asian Conflict.
In Naoki Urasawa’s Pluto we have a story arc from the classic Astro Boy (or Tetsuwan Atom) series that is taken, refined, and retold. Focusing on Gesicht, a minor character from the original story, rather than Atom, the focus moves from action to plot. The manga deals intensely with the issues of robot rights, human rights, and the ramifications of two divergent forms of life. Questions are raised regarding the place of robots in society, what separates a human from a robot, and most importantly, how close to human a robot can become. The story telling is excellent, and few manga in the genre are as emotionally intensive, the short Norse #2 arc being particularly powerful.
This is one the best manga ever written…till now 35 chapters have been scanned. -[moode]
