Posted by Blue Apple in : Blue Apple, Comics ,Hitman is a violent, darkly humored, sentimental and occasionally romantic comic book published by DC Comics, written by Garth Ennis. Hitman chronicles the exploits of Tommy Monaghan, a contract killer from the Irish part of Gotham City. He first appears in The Demon Annual #2 (part of the “Bloodlines” crossover), where he is assaulted and wounded by an alien, granting him the unexpected powers of x-ray vision and moderate telepathic powers. He adopts the monniker of “Hitman”, an assassin who specializes in killing superhumans and supernatural threats.
Although the character was given “Hitman” as a codename in his first appearance, he only referred to himself by that name once in his own series, in the very first issue; the rest of the time, he is referred to by his given name, although he was sometimes called “Hitman” in guest appearances.
Hitman issue 34, “Of Thee I Sing”, won the 1999 Eisner Award for best single issue.

Ennis maneuvers through Christian/Catholic dogma with his version of the End Of Days. At times thoughtful, funny, poignant, heretical, conscious, or gory, Ennis does a masterful job of showing that there are human beings at the heart of our religions. Unfortunately, by our nature, humans are flawed creatures.
Did I mention the talking rabbit?
