All Star Superman, launched in November 2005, is an ongoing comic book series featuring Superman, written by Grant Morrison, drawn by Frank Quitely, and published by DC Comics. DC claims that this series will “strip down the Man of Steel to his timeless, essential elements.”
This is the second series to be launched in 2005 under DC’s All Star imprint, the first being All Star Batman and Robin. These series are attempts by DC to allow major comics creators a chance to tell stories showcasing these characters, without being restricted by DC Universe continuity.
All Star Superman won the Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2006.

From the mind that brought you the masterpiece Akira.
Domu: A Child’s Dream
Katsuhiro Otomo
From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domu_%28A_Child%27s_Dream%29
Domu is a graphic novel created by Katsuhiro Otomo. Similar to his most famous work Akira, the story centers on children possessing telekinetic powers. The manga was serialized between 1980 and 1982 and was later republished as a graphic novel in 1983. It has sold over 500,000 copies in Japan.
The death of a resident of a sprawling urban housing complex marks the climax of mounting concerns by city officials. Though apparently a suicide, Ueno’s death is one of an unusually large number of deaths. Tamura, a young detective, is sent to investigate. Meanwhile, Yamagawa, Tamura’s senior investigator, learns what he can about the other residents. They include Yoshio Gujiyama (or “Little Yo”), a mentally retarded man of considerable size but infantile intelligence, Yoshikawa, an abusive alcoholic, and Uchida (or “Old Cho),” a senile old man with the “mind of a child.”
The work focuses primarily on a conflict between true children (who never grew up) and false children (irresponsible or childish adults). The former, represented by Etsuko and Little Yo, face off against the latter, represented by Old Cho and Yoshikawa. Ironically, true children are depicted as more responsible than childish adults, as well as morally pure in contrast to the amorality of irresponsible childhood. The action is set against a complex backdrop (composed of literally dozens of painstaking recreations of the housing complex) worthy of the author’s training as a student of architecture and drafting, and carries an underlying theme of the difficulties in such dense living conditions.

Earth X Saga September 4, 2006

Jim Krueger & John Paul Leon (created by Alex Ross)

Earth X is the collective name for a trilogy of comic book series published by Marvel Comics and based on Alex Ross’s re-imaginings of a dystopian future for the Marvel Universe. It was one of Marvel’s best-selling projects in recent years.
The Earth X comics, written primarily by Jim Krueger based on Ross’s notes, included Earth X, Universe X, and Paradise X (fourteen issues each - 1-12, plus X; Earth and Universe also have an issue 0, while Paradise has an issue A), Heralds X (three issues), Ragnarok (two issues), and Xen, Beasts, Devils, Spidey, Iron Men, 4, and Cap (one issue each). Each issue featured a fully-painted cover by Ross; the covers of Earth X and Universe X each combine to make up one large image. The interior art was provided by John Paul Leon based on Ross’ designs. In September 2005, Marvel released a 592 page hardcover deluxe edition of Earth X. This new edition included 12 issues of the Earth X regular series, the #0 and #X bookends, the #1/2 issue, and the Epilogue. It also contained extras pulled from the Graphitti hardcover, Marvel’s trade paperback and the sketchbooks. It marked the first time the entire story was told in full color and in hardcover.
The Marvel Encyclopedia Volume 6: Fantastic Four designated the universe of “Earth-X” as Earth-9997 (in comparison to the main Marvel Universe, which is Earth-616). This designation was later confirmed in the Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe: Alternate Universes 2005.
Earth X began in 1997 when, in the wake of DC Comics’ Kingdom Come miniseries (created by Alex Ross and Mark Waid), Wizard Magazine asked Ross to likewise imagine a possible dystopian future for Marvel. Ross sketched out some ideas of what some of the most well-known Marvel characters (including Spider-Man, Captain America and the Incredible Hulk) might be like in a future where all ordinary humans had gained superpowers, and what would become of the heroes who had been set apart by abilities which were now commonplace. The issue of Wizard which contained the Ross article (accompanied by his characteristic illustrations) sold out rapidly, and demand was so extensive that in 1999 (in affiliation with Marvel), they republished the article as a separate booklet, the Earth X Sketchbook, which likewise sold out. Taking this as a clear indicator of fan interest, Marvel commissioned Ross to create a full series based on his notes. The first Earth X issue was published in 2000.

Alex Ross & Mark Waid
A futuristic dystopian DC universe where superpowers are commonplace. Superheroes and villains run rampant and battle with total disregard for bystanders. This has led to people abandoning hope - who can they turn to? Superman retired 10 years before after an “incident”, leaving an improperly filled void of Heroism. Now, the world needs him more than ever!
