In 1993, Marvel comics introduced a new line of quarterly comics called Unlimiteds. The concept behind these titles was to tell stand-alone stories that would not fit in the regular ebb and flow of monthly storytelling. Most monthly titles are 22 pages long and most continue from issue to issue with occasional self-contained stories. However, not all stories fit into this framework. Sometimes a story may only need 10 pages to be told. Sometimes, it needs 20 pages and sometimes it needs 55 pages. By producing a 55 page quarterly book, as a supplementary title to a monthly one, Marvel had a vehicle to print stories, large and small, about characters in their own stories or characters rarely used…

Ballantine Books, in conjunction with Eidos, began publishing a series of original novels based upon the video game in the spring of 2004, beginning with The Amulet of Power by Mike Resnick, which was followed by The Lost Cult by E. E. Knight in August 2004 and the violent The Man of Bronze by James Alan Gardner in January 2005. These books generally follow the continuity of the video games (particularly Angel of Darkness) rather than the movies, although Lost Cult does contain a couple of oblique references to Cradle of Life. Man of Bronze differs from the first two books in that it is told in first person from Lara Croft’s point of view; it is also considerably more violent.

Ballantine’s contract only called for three novels, and it is not yet known if the book series will continue. Wikipedia

War Machine is a superhero in the Marvel Universe. War Machine’s abilities came from an advanced suit of armor, designed using technology from Stark Industries, and later from an alien-built suit. He is well-known as the accomplice of Iron Man. From Wikipedia
