Deadshot DC comics June 12, 2006

Deadshot (real name Floyd Lawton), is a fictional character in the DC Universe.
He is a hired assassin and quite possibly the greatest marksman in the world, reputed to never miss (he shares this catchphrase with the Marvel Comics character Bullseye). He is capable of using a large variety of weapons, but prefers using a pair of silenced, wrist-mounted Colt revolvers. He initially appeared in Gotham City as a new crimefighter, but was revealed to be an enemy of Batman when he attempted to replace the crime fighter. When this plan failed, he attempted to become king of Gotham’s Underworld. Batman and Commissioner Gordon publicly exposed his plot, and Lawton went to jail.
After serving his term, Deadshot began hiring his services out as an assassin, changing his costume from the top coat and tails he previously wore to his now more familiar red jumpsuit and distinctive metal face plate with a targeting device on the right side. He has been a major figure in the Suicide Squad in its latest two incarnations, where his skills as a marksman and his absence of care for human life served to greatly further the group’s objectives. During a hiatus from the Squad (in a four issue miniseries from 1988), his son was abducted, raped, and killed by a pedophile, whom Deadshot later took revenge upon. Probably his most peculiar trait is a great desire to die in a spectacular fashion, this being his primary motivation for joining the Squad. He feels he has no reason to continue living, and, while he does not want to commit suicide, he simply does not care if he dies. Various reasons have been cited for this, but the most common thread in them is his parents’ peculiar hatred for one another, so much so that Lawton’s mother tried to hire both her sons to kill their father.
A second miniseries featuring Deadshot recently concluded, in which Deadshot found out that he’d had a daughter who was being raised in a crime filled area of Star City. Lawton decided to do right by this daughter, and embarked on a lethal war on the local gangs that plagued the area. The series ends with Deadshot faking his death having realized a normal life isn’t for him, but having mostly cleared up the area and having convinced Green Arrow to patrol it more regularly.

Weird War Tales June 10, 2006

The longest-running of the three “weird tales” series (the others being Weird Mystery Tales and Weird Western Tales), this title was hosted by Death himself! Appearing in a different military uniform each issue, Death expostulated on the virtues of war: death, famine, etc.
In later issues recurring characters included the Creature Commandos (created by J.M. DeMatteis, featured from #93 onwards) and G.I.Robot (by Robert Kanigher, #101 onwards). The famous sixties series “The War That Time Forgot” was also pulled out of Limbo, although with less success and certainly less talented creators than before. ekenciz>

Tommy Elliot was a boy who couldn’t be satisfied. One of Bruce Wayne’s only childhood friends, he cut the brakeline on his parent’s car, intending to kill them both and reap the rewards of his inheritance. Bruce promised that his father, a celebrated surgeon, would save the Elliots. Mr. Elliot died, but Dr. Wayne was able to save Mrs. Elliot died, destrying Tommy’s dream.
Tommy would never forgive his friend for saving his mother’s life.Thomas Elliot became one of the world’s premier brain surgeons, also mastering oncology, all the while plotting his revenge. He would find the means for his vengeance from an unexpected source: cancer patient Edward Nigma, the Riddler.
Believing the Riddler might be able to resolve some mysteries about Bruce Wayne, he treated Nigma’s cancer with the only means that could work ; a dip in rejuvaniting Lazarus Pit. Suprisingly, it not only cured Nigma but provided the mental acuity to answer his greatest riddle: Who is Batman? Armed with this suprising news, Elliot and Nigma devised a plan to destroy their common foe.
Swaddling himself in bandages and donning a trench coat, Elliot (now called “Hush”) began to manipulate nearly every one of Batman’s enemies and allies in a Byzantine game of cat-and-mouse, culminating on the bridge of his parent’s car crash.
Hush revealed his identity to the Dark Knight, but his revenge was cut short by the gunshots of an aptly double-crossing Two-Face. His body fell into the Gotham River, never to be recovered.
