Batman: Hush June 6, 2006

This is the 12 part BATMAN story arc “Hush” which ran from BATMAN #608 to #619.

Thanks to Sampa1 from ProjectW for these.

Tommy Elliot was a boy who couldn’t be satisfied. One of Bruce Wayne’s only childhood friends, he cut the brakeline on his parent’s car, intending to kill them both and reap the rewards of his inheritance. Bruce promised that his father, a celebrated surgeon, would save the Elliots. Mr. Elliot died, but Dr. Wayne was able to save Mrs. Elliot died, destrying Tommy’s dream.
Tommy would never forgive his friend for saving his mother’s life.

Thomas Elliot became one of the world’s premier brain surgeons, also mastering oncology, all the while plotting his revenge. He would find the means for his vengeance from an unexpected source: cancer patient Edward Nigma, the Riddler.

Believing the Riddler might be able to resolve some mysteries about Bruce Wayne, he treated Nigma’s cancer with the only means that could work ; a dip in rejuvaniting Lazarus Pit. Suprisingly, it not only cured Nigma but provided the mental acuity to answer his greatest riddle: Who is Batman? Armed with this suprising news, Elliot and Nigma devised a plan to destroy their common foe.

Swaddling himself in bandages and donning a trench coat, Elliot (now called “Hush”) began to manipulate nearly every one of Batman’s enemies and allies in a Byzantine game of cat-and-mouse, culminating on the bridge of his parent’s car crash.

Hush revealed his identity to the Dark Knight, but his revenge was cut short by the gunshots of an aptly double-crossing Two-Face. His body fell into the Gotham River, never to be recovered.

The Book of Bunny Suicides and The Return of Bunny Suicides June 6, 2006

Posted by BDcomics in : ProjectW.org, Random cool stuff ,

In case the title The Book of Bunny Suicides leaves any doubt in your mind, the answer is yes - it is just as sick as it seems. The good news, however, is that you will have plenty of time to read through it (possibly twice) well before the guilt for picking it up has a chance to settle in.

This book is just as advertised. The “plot” (which even used in the loosest sense is a stretch) centers on, what else, a bunny trying to commit suicide. Comedian and now-author Andy Riley displays his twisted sense of humor by aptly illustrating the countless ways a rabbit might successfully take his own life. From leaping into an airplane toilet and using a metal hanger to flush it, to lying under the back leg of a chair as an obese men is just about to plant himself upon it, to climbing into an old-fashioned toaster and pulling the “toast” lever, if it could lead to a bunny’s demise, it is in there.

As much as I hate to admit it, this book is laugh-out-loud funny. Initially you may resist the urge to smile but, eventually, your reaction is likely to transform into bursts of laughter followed by a sick appreciation for this guilty pleasure. Very few words are used so, as your brain works to chart the progression of the comic strip frames, you will find yourself predicting how each bunny will gleefully succeed in ending his life. And, I must add that I did derive an odd sense of comfort in the fact that there are at least two seemingly twisted ideas that I have yet to fully comprehend.

Andy Riley holds out his project as a book about bunnies trying to kill themselves and this is precisely what he delivers. Consider it sick. Consider it pointless. Consider it twisted. But, if you are to be honest, you must also consider it loads of fun.

And to PerV, also from Project, for the book’s sequel The Return of Bunny Suicides.

Both books are about 3 MBs. And they’re fun. In a twisted sort of way.

Groo the Wanderer June 6, 2006

Posted by BDcomics in : Comics, ProjectW.org, h2oluver ,

Groo the Wanderer (a parody of the Robert E. Howard character Conan the Barbarian) is a fantasy era large-nosed buffoon who constantly misunderstands his surroundings, and, despite his generally good intentions, causes mass destruction wherever he goes. Most of his adventures end with him walking away oblivious to the mayhem he has wrought, or fleeing an angry mob. Groo occasionally meets with respect and good fortune, but it does not last. Businesses, towns, civilizations and cultures have all been unwittingly destroyed by Groo. Such is Groo’s incompetence that so much as stepping onto a ship will cause it to sink.

The only thing that has kept Groo alive through all of his adventures is his excellent swordsmanship. Groo has slain entire armies on his own, with nothing more than his swords. Groo loves these battles - or “frays”, as he calls them - and often charges into the melee with a cry of “Now Groo does what Groo does best!” So great is his love for battle that Groo seldom bothers to consider which side he is fighting for, and goes on to slay soldiers from either side.
